Hey guys,

Just a quick update to say that my new professional website, ToraIllustration.Com, is now up. There is not yet a blog to go with it, but I'll be setting that up pretty soon. (On Blogspot, since that is where all of the professional art community blogs.) The site is a radical departure from anything I've done before, as it was created all in Flash.

I would appreciate any comments or suggestions regarding the site and its content, which will continue to evolve over the next few weeks (as I fine-tune it according to my New Media instructor's suggestions). Knowing the loading time for different people will be especially helpful.

I gotta say, now that I know Flash, I'm never going back to HTML...although I had planned to make an HTML version of the site as well. (Rethinking that: so much work...no knowledge of Dreamweaver...bleh...)

Also, I am aware that I never finished that story I posted six weeks ago. It's sitting on my desktop waiting for the school semester to end next week. =)

Thanks guys!

Here I come, once again, to the dreams of my younger days...

I just spent a half hour or so reading back through some of the old Tao of Woot material; not the stories, but the foundations of the universe I set up in the Silver Age, after I first moved to San Francisco. Looking back now, it was premature to declare a Silver Age of the Realms when it was mostly just myself trying to drag out their existence. The Realms only exist now, if anything, in an age of Second Waning - once again their creators vanish into the skies, chasing the...I don't know what...that is Life on the Earth That Is.

Yet most of the material is good. As always, I cringe at my former writing style, but other than that...fairly good. There are so many tales yet to be told, characters to be created, worlds to be explored! But that remains a former dream, and I haven't the energy for it now. But one day...perhaps...

As Shaw said, "Youth is a wonderful thing. What a crime to waste it on children."
And as Wilde counters, "To get back my youth I would do anything in the world, except take exercise, get up early, or be respectable."

But it's kind of ridiculous to talk about your youth when you're 21 years old, even if you feel much older and in fact always have. Yes? So I will say no more about it.

Instead I have the urge - and the time, more astonishing - to write a little story. It's been forever, mind you, so this may not be very good. But I've just read a fantastic collection of stories, so maybe the genius of the writers within will affect me for the better as I type out this little Return to the realms of my inner child. I imagine this is how I will write Woot stories, from now on...a little more mature, a little less whimsical, a lot more nostalgic. I hope you enjoy.

Hi guys.

It's been, what, forever? And to tell you the truth, it might keep on being forever. I haven't really been online except to check emails and whatnot for months now. Unfortunately, I can't see that changing.

The fact of it is, real life is too hard and too complex and, rarely, too wonderful to be wasting your time writing about it in public forums.

I regret being out of touch with you guys, but at the same time, I'd rather actually hear your voices.

As I speak, I'm gearing up for my Midpoint Review at the Academy. This is a major portfolio review which will determine the course of my remaining studies here - if I have any. The financial situation is dire by this point. I'm going to have to graduate as soon as possible. That means I need to refine my focus towards getting some good pieces done before I leave.

I'm taking a full class load in addition to working 15-25 hours a week at Starbucks. "Sleeping in" has come to mean "waking up at any time after 7 AM." It's also become nearly nonexistent. More often I'm getting up around 3:30 to 6:00 in the morning, going to work, going home to change, and heading right off for a three to six hour class. When I get home, the last thing I want to do is bend over a computer.

Free time is a mixture of eating (whatever's in the apartment, which is, more often than not, nothing), sleeping, and working on homework. There isn't much time for anything else.

In light of this, I've decided not to renew my website domain in January. Tigressong.Net (such as it is) will not be around much longer.

So this hiatus of mine from my journals and forums might last indefinitely. It might last forever.

However I will still be checking my emails and devART, and of course reading your guys' blogs. I'll leave this journal active so I can comment on them.

You can always call me, too.

---

What this means for the Tao of Woot gets a little more complex. I think we all agree that I'm the only one keeping it alive at this point. Since writing is playing a distant second fiddle to artwork right now - and probably always will; I'm not going to kid myself and say that I can realistically split my focus anymore - the stories now exist only in my head.

But then, we always knew that whole worlds exist in my head. That's kind of what this is all about.

I've been playing around with the idea of taking elements of the Woot and professionally illustrating them to serve as highlights in my portfolio. New character studies, layouts, and environments along the lines of the Realms would be in the direction I want my work to go, and therefore would be valuable. Naturally this might fall into the large category of things I say I'm going to do and never get around to, but the idea has merit. We'll see.

At this point I can't see the Woot as it is existing, except between you guys and I, which is how it's always been. It's more of a partygoer's club than a serious fantasyscape, and we all know it. That was part of its appeal, maybe.

Anyway, we'll see what happens in that direction. I still have ideas - I will always have ideas for the Woot. Taking the time to commit them to words and images? Well, we all know I'm kind of sucky at that, at least for the last few years. But they're there. They exist. And I guess as long as they do, so will the Realms...if only in a little girl's mind.

As they began, so shall they be.

Love to you all,
Tora

Alternate title for this post: Tora's Finally Writing Again, Hooray!

That's right, nerds, I've finally gone back to my notes for A (Woot) Pirate's Life for Me II (which needs a better, shorter title) and have created a new comprehensive outline of the story, which is now ready and willing to be written. The Muse has visited, and new funness is in store...all that remains is to sit down and actually get going!

However, with a death note of DOOM, I must also announce that my semeter begins in nine days...so we'll see what I can accomplish in that time, and whether or not I can continue writing over the semester.

Also, in other news, I renewed my website and domain, so Tigressong.Net still exists, as does the Woot Website. However, changes need to be made, and so I'm trying to return and revamp the whole thing. We'll see what happens.

Till later, guys!

Hello guys...it's been a long time...of course, since hardly anyone reads this, that's not really much of an issue, is it? Mreh. I'm pessimistic tonight.

As you may have guessed, I've continued to be very busy since my last few posts, with school and work and all manner of little annoying issues that keep popping up to harass me and distract me. There's been no opportunity of late to do more than think on Woot matters, and of course it seems like Woot Pirates 2 has withered on the vine, so to speak. I underestimated how insane this semester would be...

But I have been doing some thinking. I don't know when these ideas will be put into operation, if they ever are, but this is the "ideas vault," so perhaps that doesn't really matter. Since last year I've been meaning to overhaul my website, Tigressong.Net. This has happened only partially, and not how I wanted. I've been taking a lot of time to decide what exactly I do want, and slowly some form is beginning to emerge from the mental chaos. The site will be pruned down - a LOT - and the main site will be my online portfolio. That's right, back to the Tigressong Art Gallery. Since this semester I'm finally doing some illustrating, it's time to begin thinking about my career in that field...

Ideas have been percolating about how I want the Tao of Woot to figure into all of this. As you know, I've put a tremendous amount of effort and energy into the Woot ever since its creation. Often I wonder why I bother. I've decided that it's probably out of nostalgia for what it was in the beginning. And what was that? A collaborative fantasy project; a completely open ground for invention, creation, ideas, beginnings. A flight of fantasy shared among many. Sheer fun.

If I redo the Woot website, this will be its new label. The Tao of Woot: A Collaborative Fantasy Project. I'm going to make an effort to bring it back to its roots, back to its lightheartedness, back to the escape we meant it to be.

In my opinion, it's been getting too serious.

Anyway, like I said, these are just ideas at this stage...but I think they're good ones.

I'll try to do some Woot doodles or something soon, at least!

Hello everyone. For those of you who are wondering where the hell I've vanished to...let's just say I've been busy. Crazy busy. ^^; Work, school, etc have combined to give me no free time - or during the free time I have I sleep, since that's the only impetus I have left by that time. Lol. For more on my recent adventures, I refer you to my blog.

It looks like the load might be lightening after midterms, though, so maybe I can get back to the Wootness. No promises, though.

Sorry about the delays!

Ladies and gents, I here do proudly present: A (Woot) Pirate's Life For Me 2: Opening Prelude!

This is a little teaser for the rest of the story, which I'll probably be posting elsewhere. (I'll certainly post links and updates here, though.) It's true that I have less and less time nowadays, but I do enjoy a good bout of writing every now and then, so I've decided to go ahead with the story. Plus I already planned it all out and stuff. ^^;

I hope you guys enjoy the Prelude...remember please that I reserve the right to completely change everything and anything at any time...as a writer must. =)

Without futher ado:
Woot Pirates 2: Prelude )

The Prelude sets out some environmental issues taking place during the story. It will help, too, to read the entry I posted on Gaeritan Hierarchy, just to know more about the kingdom. You don't have to, of course, it's just supplement material.

A very fun creative meme! Yoinked from Kouryu_Shai. The meme:

Choose twelve of your original characters, in any particular order. Then, answer the questions that follow, but DON'T LOOK AT THE QUESTIONS BEFORE YOU PICK THE CHARACTERS!

The characters (all from the Woot Universe, of course):

1. Joel (ArchTenshi of Punk)
2. Utsuru Shizuku (Elemental Queen of Water)
3. Valanthe (Elven Guardian of World's-Heart)
4. Sabelina (Princess of the Sakka)
5. Steve (Wandering Transvestite Pirate)
6. Ulzannurolazrapheron aka "Laz" (Demon DJ)

7. Asahi (Light Elemental)
8. Kalgalath (Chaos Dragon)
9. Shifty McGulligan (Slightly Mad Sailor)
10. Homeageru Seika (Elemental King of Air)
11. Laurel (ArchTenshi of Goth)
12. Umizigawa (Albino Pygmy Pirate)

Here are the questions! )

Hello peeps! In anticipation for the soon-to-be-arriving Woot Pirates 2, I've decided to post a few more things about the climate of Gaerita (which is of course the kingdom which rules the Woot Caribbean) when the story takes place. I've been working out a few more things about this fair kingdom of the sea, most noticeably a hierarchy of its people. It is a monarchy, and loosely based off of the European monarchies, especially England's during their exploratory age - because that was the age of pirates. But, as always, magick throws a monkey wrench into everything.

This stuff isn't necessary to know when you're reading the story, because I will edify matters in the prose as is required, but I thought I would post it here anyway because this is the ideas vault, and it'll provide a nice little background for those of you who do read it.

Aristocracy )

Any questions or comments about this stuff, please leave a comment...I will be posting the first segment of Woot Pirates 2 very soon!

Hello readers. This is another update on A (Woot) Pirate's Life For Me 2 (which still has no better name). Contrary to popular belief, I have been working on it, albeit sporadically. Almost all the major plot points are in place, I have reworked my villain to my satisfaction, everyone's motivations are OK, and to my knowledge, all I have left to do is devise a few more twists, work in a few more characters, and just write the damn thing. Now, as you know, I usually don't work out so much beforehand...I even attempted to write an outline this time, silly me...and it just wasn't working out, so I've decided to just sit down and GO!

Total first draft work to date: about a page. Whee.

*shrug* Well, what did you expect? I'm major stressed over a bunch of things, including returning to school with a completely random roommate, leaving my lover again (it gets so much harder every time), working out storage kinks, and partioning out my time to all the people that want to see me in the six (YES, ONLY SIX) days before I leave...not to mention worrying over flight restrictions and baggage, getting to check-in on time, securing bottom bunk, buying food, and all that other stuff. Yarg. I almost hope my new roommate is a newbie so that I can shepherd her around to make myself feel more confident. :D

BUT! I plan to keep writing, and so I shall. Here is a nice blurb:

The new Woot Pirates saga will feature greedy kings and desperate kingdoms, lovestruck Archmages and frozen dragons, ladies of negotiable affections, an epic adventure, a mighty quest, hidden motivations, secrets and traps, lies and truths, the game of thrones, epic power struggles, former beloved characters, exciting new characters, a newly sexy former commodore, cannibal Elves and pygmy albinos, ladies of questionable virtue, goddesses and angels and boats (ships!), powerful magick, extraordinary Elementals, a mysterious island with a hatch and a monster, at least one giant kickass battle scene, a legend kept secret since the dawn of Time, and an ancient weapon of unimaginable power - and, of course, pirates.

What more could you ask for?
Oh, right - snakes on a ship. I'll see what I can do.

COMING SOON TO A WEBSITE NEAR YOU!

Hello readers (if there are any). It's been awhile, no? Summer's been busy since July, with lots of stress and hair-pulling (nooo, my spiffy red hair!). Fortunately some good has come out of it, but I'll go into that in my regular blog, which I am writing entries for but have not been able to post yet. (Sorries.)

First: We had a Woot Gathering today! FINALLY! All my peeps were there, except Shini (dunno what happened to him) and Nikko (who still isn't really talking to me). Can you believe it's been almost six years?? On October 26, it will have been six years to the day that the Woot was created. ^_^ Anyway, I made a cake to celebrate the occasion; we all went and saw POTC 2, and played Battle of the Sexes, and had a killer time. I love my peeps. <3

Second: an update on the progress of Woot Pirates 2. After my initial spurt of ideas, I haven't been able to write much. The outline is mostly in my head, however, and I have a good idea of the main plot and the events that will happen along the way. Hopefully soon I will have more time with which to actually write!! O_o; I think it's good stuff, although this story probably won't be as madcap as the last one. It's actually harder to write comedically/satirically, did you know? Anyway.

Since the Woot Caribbean and the events of the Woot pirate chronicles deal largely with the kingdom of Gaerita, I've been doing some thinking about it and its future. For those of you who don't know, Gaerita (pronounced Gay-uh-REE-tah) is the largest of the kingdoms of Man on the Woot World, and since antiquity has been the foremost of all the civilizations of humanity - equivalent to the Roman empire in its heyday. It gained this status largely because of the intercession of strong magick in the form of an Elemental - Utsuru Shizuku, the Elemental Queen of Water. In the earliest time of Woot Earth, she fell in love with a mortal man, and had a child by him, and thus began one of the most powerful and enduring magickal bloodlines of the Woot World, which rules Gaerita to this day. The daughters of this line, especially, are mighty mages, and powerful queens, and under the influence of their magick the kingdom of Gaerita expanded and flourished.

Also, in olden days there were three seperate kingdoms on the coast and inland of this part of Woot Earth, Gaerita being one. This was in the Foundation Age and it was the time of Dragons. The dragon population experienced a growth spurt at this time and, inevitably, dragons and humans clashed. Harried by the much stronger, more magickal dragons, the humans of the three kingdoms devised a sort of magickal plague to kill off all the dragons, which becan me known as the Scourge. Ultimately, however, Gaerita refused to participate in the creation of the Scourge. When Caleil Dragon-Savior and the Ruler of Woot Earth managed to halt the Scourge and save the dragons, the other two kingdoms were disbanded and their lands given to Gaerita, making it the largest human kingdom in the land.

From the writings of the Elven ambassador Olondir of the Waning Age:

"It is my third day in the kingdom of Gaerita, which the people call Gaerita-of-the-Sea; and indeed these men and women carry the sea in their veins, its call in their blood and its whisper ever in their ears. They say it is the blood of Water Elementals which makes it so. It may well be true! Their city, though not entirely at harmony with its surrounds, has nonetheless a definite beauty and charm - white stone streets, and a strange blue stone quarried to the north which they use for decoration, statuary, and monuments. The city's pillars are fluted, its architecture delicate yet imposing. The Gaeritans are fond of open plazas and circles, each of which has its fountain in the center...At night they light the fountains, and the whole city shimmers with the shapes and shadows of leaping water. It is a strange effect, yet harmonious; these men know how to live with the concept of impermanence, living as they do on the whims of the sea. Tomorrow I am to view the great Magehall where they have established a university for the teaching of magick, and to climb up to the palace to greet the Queen. I shall wear the green of my clan, which will be pleasing against the white and the blue."

Now it is the Silver Age. Gaerita continued to expand its holdings, but mostly by sea. Thanks to Shizuku's bloodline, the people of Gaerita have always had an affinity for water and the ocean. They quickly became one of the greatest naval powers in the Woot World, rivaled today only by the migratory Sea Elves. The bloodline of the Queens still holds sway in the land, but it is beginning to decline. Moreover, the Kingdom has become complacent and greedy, seeking to extend their power ever more over the other kingdoms of mankind and the dominions of the other races.

The storyline of Woot Pirates 2 deals heavily with this sort of "new attitude" in Gaerita, which I equate with the attitude of empire-building in Europe in the 16-1700s. It concerns a fiendish ArchMage intent on seizing power, and a pair of monarchs who are largely concerned with the financial state of the realm and expanding their territory. Now, this parallel is somewhat necessary, in order to equate the Woot Caribbean with the actual Caribbean around the time of piracy. However, I try to put a unique spin on things as often as possible. Gaerita seems to be headed downhill, which saddens me; it's my Rome and Minas Tirith and empiric England all rolled into one. We can more or less consider it the cradle of (advanced) human civilization on Woot Earth, since I haven't up to this point really concerned myself with the kingdoms of Man. (It's often difficult, since Woot Earth isn't mapped. It really ought to be soon, I suppose.) It is the greatest triumph of humanity; concentrated here is the greatest magickal and artistic knowledge.

Which got me to thinking: it would make a great Atlantis/Numenor parallel.

If the Gaeritans got so arrogant and greedy that they defied my will, I could totally smite them into the sea. After all, they would have had a good run: from the time of the first kingdoms to now. That's a couple thousand years in Woot Time! And it's all thanks to the major boost from Shizuku. Also, if I collapsed Gaerita I wouldn't have it to use as my default kingdom of humans anymore, which would force me to create new things. ^^; The only problem is that the whole Atlantis thing: been done. Many times. I like the mytheme, but at the same time it seems a cop-out.

Another possibility I was playing around with was to create a parallel kingdom with another Elemental bloodline. Say, a Fire bloodline! Muahah. That would be fun to mess with; again, there are some problems. Namely, I don't want the Elementals getting too much of a foothold on Woot Earth. And I don't want to have to create a new half-Elemental, half-human race. That just messes with my established order. Once in Woot history seems quite enough, if it gives so much of an advantage. Although there are possibilities with Light and Dark bloodlines that would be interesting to play with...and this whole bloodline idea could play into the concept Shini and I have had for ages about an Elemental Champion.

So there are just some ideas I've been playing around with...

Give me your thoughts...

Saw Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest twice already. WOOT BABY!

And you know I already have ideas for Woot Pirates 2. You know it. I can now begin writing!

In other Woot news, myself and Admael are taking it upon ourselves to set Shinigami up with a nice, pureblood Sakka princess. That is, a princess of the vampires of Woot Hell. *squee!* With the united force of the Sakka clans on his side, he'll be in a position to stage a power coup and vy with Kita for the rule of Woot Hell...

Oh yeah. Big doin's.

I haven't been very active on the internet lately...and sadly, I haven't been very busy working for the Woot, either. I've been very lazy and have been reading comics, watching movies, sleeping...enjoying my summer. You know how it is.

On Friday I dyed my hair deep red with red highlights and copper red underneath. It looks just like Phoenix's from X-Men: The Last Stand. Since my Woot self already has hair this color, all I need are the lilac bangs to realize my Woot hairdo. Lol. I don't think I'll go that far, though.

Just letting you all know the Woot is not forgotten. I'll get back on the website content before I leave for the beach on July 1st. And some Gatherings of the Woot Brethren are in order: a Firefly/Serenity marathon, and a mass viewing of Pirates of the Caribbean 2, of course!

My online classes start today...^^; Maybe that'll get me more in a productive mood.

Hope everyone is enjoying the summer!

Well, I'm back home in Portland. Unfortunately, my laptop doesn't get the internet here, so I have to steal my brothers' computers if I want to do anything online, including update this journal or work on the Woot website. Add to this the fact that I left my scanner at home and my overwhelming laziness, and it seems like it's going to be a slow summer for creativity. Sorry in advance.

On the other hand, I have been seeing my peeps of the Woot posse and making plans for some tales. Firstly, Shinigami brought to my attention the fact that it's been ages since Shinigami's Story, and it's high time to begin the rewrites and a new, revised outline (with a better ending, dammit). I'm not sure whether or not this will actually happen yet. Shinigami's Story requires a big committment, since it's a major Woot mythology, and the pressure to get it right this time will be huge. Also, Woot Pirates 2 takes precedence.

I'm *very* excited about WP2, actually. I'm chock-full of parody ideas, so much so that once I see the actual POTC2 and its storyline I might be hard-pressed to work it in! Here are some tidbits of what may occur.

Set sail for adventure! )

Wow, it's been awhile, hasn't it? Don't worry, my friends, I haven't ceased thinking about the Tao of Woot and its splendid glories. However, I have been very busy. I just finished all my finals and have this last week of school to get through before flying home to Portland this Sunday. w00t!

I did do a (very) few things. The website pages for The Elemental Realm and Multiversal Dimensions are now available. Although I may have to revisit the Elemental Realm page once I write the page for the Elemental people themselves, since I wrote in a lot of that information there, and by rights it should be in the "Inhabitants" section.

I am still on track to write A (Woot) Pirate's Life for Me 2 (a better title is forthcoming) as soon as POTC 2: Dead Man's Chest comes out on July 7th. The peeps and I are already planning a full midnight showing in costume, and many subsequent viewings. ^___^

Oh, and having seen the new trailer, I would just like to say: I wrote a kraken into Woot Pirates long before they wrote one into POTC 2, dammit!

I wonder how she's doing...I should revisit some of those characters...^^
